World of Warcraft – Item Upgrading Upgrades to items allow players to increase an item's gear score up to 700, and then add an additional perk. In some cultures, a trinket is used to signify affection or friendship, particularly between family members. In addition to armor, weapons and potions, players are able to upgrade their trinkets. Upgrades can be purchased by paying the appropriate currency to an upgrade vendor. Trinkets like other items which can be upgraded can be swapped at will without losing stats. Upgrade vendors can be found at the capitals of each zone and in some cases in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets are purchased with gold, tokens or fragments of rare trinkets. Upgrades are a cost-effective alternative to purchasing a new trinket. One can upgrade their trinket for as little as 12 tokens. The new trinket will feature the same base ilvl as older one, and include an additional 1% upgrade bonus. Trinkets can be upgraded once they are no longer useful which allows a player to increase their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players which makes them a popular alternative to gold. Players should upgrade their most important items first. This typically means the top-of-the-line items for their class, followed by their secondary items and finally, other items of gear will not be replaced in the near future (for instance an earring or cloak). It is also important to consider your class's preferred stats when selecting which items to upgrade. For example If Haste and Crit are the two most important stats for a tank, they should prioritize upgrading their helm, chest shoulders, belt, and helm. Trinkets are able to be upgraded to a higher ilvl after they no longer have value, and the new trinket will have an additional upgrade bonus of 1. However, a re-upgrade is likely to destroy the old trinket, unless it is saved using a Black Lion Salvage Kit or an additional salvage tool of higher quality. This means upgrading trinkets is more expensive than other upgrades, but is still cheaper than buying an entirely new trinket.
